Nepal Floods Claim 469 Lives, Philippines Searching for Missing Citizen

The Philippine government is preparing to provide assistance to Filipino citizens affected by the catastrophic floods in Nepal. The Philippine Presidential Office stated on Friday that the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and the Honorary Consulate-General in Kathmandu are coordinating with Nepalese authorities to assist affected Filipino citizens.

Claire Castro, Press Officer of the Philippine Presidential Office, quoted a statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), saying that the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and the Honorary Consulate-General in Kathmandu, Nepal, are currently actively maintaining contact with local authorities and are ready to offer assistance to impacted Filipino citizens.

She said that the Philippine government is also verifying reports of a Filipino citizen who went missing after the disaster.

“The relevant agencies are awaiting confirmation from Nepalese authorities regarding the identity and whereabouts of the reportedly missing Filipino citizen.”

On Thursday, the Nepal Tourism Board released a report indicating that, according to preliminary information from several local mountaineering and tourism companies, one Filipino citizen is among more than 500 foreign nationals listed as missing in the deadly flash floods.

Meanwhile, Nepalese police said on Friday that the death toll from the sudden floods has risen to 469.
