(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) The Tourism Development Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has launched the “Hala Tuju dan Explorasi Kerjaya 2026” program, actively promoting career talks to secondary students through an ongoing roadshow.
Since the beginning of 2026, the department has organized career talks at several major educational institutions, including Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School, Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School, Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School, Menglait Gadong Secondary School, Sekolah Tinggi Raja Isteri, and Sayyidina Othman Secondary School.
This series of talks successfully benefited 774 students from BTEC Hotel Management, Tourism, Geography, and Food & Nutrition programs, providing them with valuable opportunities to gain insight into the flourishing career prospects within Brunei’s hotel and tourism industries.
The career talks offered practical insights into career development, covering the diverse career paths in the hotel and tourism industry, the skills required for different roles, and the potential for career advancement. The program also highlighted pathways for further education and scholarship opportunities, helping students make informed academic and career decisions.
A major highlight of the program was inviting guest speakers from leading industry institutions such as the Royal Brunei Culinary Academy and Borneo Bird Watching Tour Company. These professionals shared their experiences and emphasized the qualifications and skills needed in the fields of tourism, food & beverage, and culinary arts.
This briefing was packed with valuable information, especially regarding the various career pathways in the tourism industry. It has sparked more curiosity and enthusiasm for learning in me and increased my eagerness to pursue a career in this field.
The briefing also provided valuable guidance for our choices after completing the O-Level examinations. As a student majoring in tourism, I learned that there are many different career options to choose from.
With this year's roadshows coming to an end, the Tourism Development Department looks forward to strengthening cooperation with educational institutions throughout Brunei and continuing to promote career development in the hotel and tourism sector. The department also plans to extend these career talks to the wider public to raise awareness of the various career opportunities in the tourism industry.
