A Hundred Works Depicting Cultural Memory: Brunei Heritage Sketch Project Opens

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) The 'Brunei Heritage Sketch' project was officially launched at 8:30am on August 16th at the Brunei Royal Wharf Energy Centre Exhibition Hall.
Through the eyes and hands of Bruneian artists, those layers of cultural memories embedded in streets, buildings, and daily life are being sketched and taking form, stroke by stroke.
This event is organized by Zuoyi Cross-Cultural Art Company, in collaboration with the Brunei Museum and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports. It is open to the entire society, inviting both professional artists and the public to participate together. Regardless of age or experience, everyone is welcome to depict their individual impressions of Bruneian culture using any medium they prefer—watercolors, sketches, digital painting, collage, or any other means.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honor, Acting Director of Brunei Museum, Pengiran Haji Rosli. Members of various foreign diplomatic missions, local artists, and friends from the art community also attended.
When announcing the official start of the project, the Guest of Honor remarked: "This is a tribute to our cultural heritage, our historical stories, and the places that shape our identity—captured through the eyes and depicted with the hands of our artists. May every sketch become a fragment of memory, and each memory condense into a Bruneian imprint that time cannot erase. Now, I officially declare the 'Brunei Heritage Sketch' project open."
Founder Huang Huifen said: Seeing so many people from different age groups—including young art enthusiasts, children, and adult participants—all come together makes me truly happy and gratified.
This shows that everyone shares a resonance in their hearts for cultural preservation. I hope that through this project, more people can feel: your creations have value, and your expressions are worth being seen.
Even a simple sketch can become part of Bruneian cultural memory. My greatest satisfaction is seeing participants grow in confidence and passion for their own creations because of this.
The project has already sparked great enthusiasm, and around 100 works are expected to be created. The convergence of different media and perspectives allows everyone to find their own way of expression, weaving together a richly layered visual tapestry of Brunei.
This project is honored to have the support of: MINI Brunei (exclusive main sponsor), Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) (main sponsor), and Ezy Printing Services & Trading Co. (official printing partner).
The final collection of works will be compiled and published as an artbook, becoming a vivid page in Brunei's visual archives—turning today’s artistic expressions into future cultural landmarks when we look back.
