(Kuching, 9th) Kuching North City Hall continues to strengthen its initiatives in promoting a healthy lifestyle to address the issue of an aging population.

For this reason, Kuching North City Hall is relaunching the 2026 Mayor’s Golf Championship, aiming to encourage community residents to actively participate in recreational and sporting activities.

Kuching North Mayor Datuk Hilmi stated that Malaysia is expected to become an aging society starting next year. Therefore, we need to enhance related facilities, programs, and activities to support healthy living, ensuring that people remain active and enjoy a higher quality of life.

“Kuching North City Hall is committed to providing more facilities, venues, and programs to promote a healthy lifestyle, as we are about to enter an aging society from next year onwards.”

Hilmi disclosed as such at the press conference for the 2026 Mayor’s Golf Championship held today at the Sarawak Golf Club.

He pointed out that the city hall will continue to increase programs oriented towards health and recreation, striving to make Kuching not only a livable city, but also one that supports residents’ wellbeing in the long term.

He stated that hosting the Mayor’s Cup Golf Championship not only helps strengthen ties between the public sector, private sector, and community, but also enhances Kuching’s image as a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive city.

The tournament will be held on August 8 at the Sarawak Golf Club, aiming to rejuvenate what was once one of Kuching's premier golf events.

An estimated 258 players are expected to compete in the VIP group, invitational group, and open group. The main prize for a hole-in-one is a Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV car, in addition to various cash prizes, electrical appliances, and lucky draws.

Hilmi mentioned that choosing an electric vehicle as the main prize also aligns with the goal of promoting green technology applications and supporting the sustainable development agenda, which is a key development focus for Kuala Lumpur City.

He hopes that this event will continue to receive positive response from the golf community and grow into an annual signature event, not only promoting the development of sports, but also helping to build a healthier, more positive, and more resilient society.

The 2026 Kuching North Mayor’s Cup Golf Championship is co-hosted by Kuching North City Hall, Yi Hua Co. Ltd., and the Sarawak Golf Club.
