(Miri, 30th) To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Miri City's elevation, the Miri City Council today held a grand launching ceremony for the 2025 Mayfest celebrations at the Pullman Hotel in Miri, officiated by Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang. The event announced a series of exciting programs throughout May, allowing everyone to celebrate this significant festival.
The 2025 Miri City's 20th-anniversary Mayfest launching ceremony was grandly held at 2:30 PM today at the 6th-floor banquet hall of Pullman Hotel Miri. The event was attended by a large number of guests, including sponsors, association representatives, former city council members, and city council officials, all witnessing the unveiling of this annual local cultural event.
In his speech, Mayor Adam Yii emphasized that Mayfest is not only an annual festival but an important platform to unite the community and showcase cultural diversity. He highlighted that the enthusiastic participation and support from various sectors have made Mayfest 2025 possible, symbolizing the continuous development of Miri City.
"This year's Mayfest is particularly significant because we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Miri's elevation to city status, an important milestone worth celebrating together and a chance to look forward to future development."
It is reported that more than 31 activities will take place in May, covering cultural performances, sports events, exhibitions, charity sales, food festivals, and community building plans, suitable for citizens of all ages. Notably, to celebrate Miri City's 20th anniversary, the city council will host a 10-day "Multiracial Unity Carnival" to promote racial harmony and inclusiveness.
Additionally, a "People's Concert" featuring popular artists like Baby Shima, Vanessa Reynauld, and others will take place during the carnival, surely creating a frenzy of public celebrations.
Mayor Adam Yii urged all groups, organizations, and citizens to continue proposing community-beneficial activities through the Mayfest platform, enhancing connections, strengthening the sense of belonging, and spreading love to more needed groups.
"I sincerely hope citizens can seize this opportunity to actively participate in the exciting programs of Mayfest 2025. Let us celebrate Miri City's 20th anniversary together in joy, pride, and unity."
