Despite UMNO's announcement to cancel the rally to support former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib on January 6 (Monday) outside the Putrajaya Court of Appeal, PAS insists on participating and mocks UMNO as cowards.
PAS Vice President Datuk Mohamad Amar stated that no one can stop them from going to court.
“No one can restrict us from going to court. UMNO canceling the rally is their decision. Maybe UMNO is a coward, or perhaps they have just been pretending all along.”
He was responding to inquiries whether PAS's insistence on attending the rally, despite it being prohibited by the police, was defying the royal decree.
He insisted that this rally is not illegal and emphasized that the rally will be conducted peacefully.
“We will go ahead. Our action is not to cause chaos; it is a peaceful rally to determine if there are any additional decrees.”
“Certainly, we will follow the original plan and attend the rally as scheduled.”
Earlier media reports stated that UMNO and PAS planned to hold a rally in Putrajaya on January 6 (Monday) in support of Najib.
The National Palace issued a statement on January 3, clarifying that any party wishing to propose a pardon or sentence reduction must apply through the Pardons Board. Subsequently, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razali urged the public not to attend the rally in support of Najib.
UMNO's Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf released a statement, stating that in respect of the royal decree, particularly concerning the privilege of proposing a pardon or sentence reduction, and following the Inspector General's directive, the event organizers, UMNO, would not hold the rally at the Putrajaya Judicial Palace. Following UMNO's cancellation, MCA also decided not to mobilize its members to attend the rally.
