(Bandar Seri Begawan, 15th)—The preliminary round of the 9th Global Chinese Recitation Competition (BCC campus division), organized by Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School, recently concluded successfully. A group of outstanding contestants stood out after fierce competition, demonstrating their solid foundation in Chinese and excellent artistic expression.

As the authorized organizer by the Chinese Language Education Foundation, BCC provided professional organization and meticulous planning to create a high-standard Chinese recitation competition platform for its students. The preliminary stage for primary school included categories for lower and upper primary, for both Chinese and non-Chinese students, and was held at the Wong Chong Ho Hall on April 10 this year.

The competition attracted enthusiastic participation from many students, with a lively atmosphere on the scene. The contestants, revolving around the competition theme, interpreted classic works in various genres such as poetry and prose with full emotion and fluent Chinese, allowing them to experience the beauty of the language in real contexts and enhance their confidence in expression.

The judging panel gave comprehensive scores based on language expression, emotional engagement, stage presence, and the significance of their material, selecting the best performers from each group.

In the upper primary section, the champion of the Grade 6 Chinese group was Yang Zhuoying (Blue Class) with "The Kite with a Broken String". The champion of the Grade 5 Chinese group was Liang Xinwen (Red Class) with "I Have a Dream". The Grade 4 Chinese group champion was Qiu Zichen (Red Class) with "I Am the Bravest Star in the Night Sky". The non-Chinese group champion was Ruisha (Grade 4, Yellow Class) with "If I Were a Leaf".

In the lower primary section, Grade 1 Chinese group champion was Jiang Yeqiao with "Mother's Love"; Grade 2 Chinese group champion was Hong Xinyi with "My Shadow is a Little Rascal"; Grade 3 Chinese group champion was Li Ziqing with "The Beauty of Chinese". Lower primary non-Chinese group champion was Yan Quanhua with "Forest Competition".

XU Yuelan stated that the school has long been committed to promoting Chinese education and culture. By hosting this competition, not only did it test teaching outcomes, but also provided students with valuable practical opportunities and further ignited their enthusiasm to learn Chinese and inherit Chinese heritage.

It is understood that the Global Chinese Recitation Competition is organized by the Chinese Language Education Foundation and has been held for eight consecutive years since its inception in 2018, entering its ninth edition this year. The mission of the competition is to promote Chinese culture, facilitate exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations, and showcase the Chinese language abilities of overseas Chinese youth.

The winners of this preliminary round will have the opportunity to represent BCC in the regional semifinals and the global finals, competing with Chinese language elites from around the world on the same stage.
