Nicholas Tse’s 'Secret Recipe' – Patrick Tse Scored with a Little Help

Patrick Tse and Deborah Lee tried many methods to have a son, and finally succeeded thanks to one particular technique. 70-year-old renowned Hong Kong director Wong Jing revealed the secret behind Nicholas Tse’s birth in his YouTube show “Wong Jing’s Laughing at the World.” He said that Deborah once had a 'secret recipe' for bearing a son, but later found out from Patrick Tse that he had eaten a large amount of oysters and, after calculating the timing precisely, hit the mark in just one go.

Wong Jing said that he used to be very good friends with 'Fourth Brother' Patrick Tse. He also thanked Patrick Tse and Deborah Lee for supporting him by starring in his very first film “Challenge of the Gamesters.” The two families have known each other for decades.

In the 1970s, Patrick Tse was a major star of Cantonese films, commanding top fees, but at the time, he had yet to sign a contract with TVB. Later, after divorcing Jenny Hu, Patrick Tse married Deborah Lee in 1979, and Nicholas Tse was born the following year. Deborah Lee, who originally didn’t want children, secretly told Wong Jing that she had a foolproof method to ensure her first child would be a boy. Sure enough, Nicholas Tse was born, making Wong Jing very curious about what the secret was. Patrick Tse later revealed that he had eaten large quantities of oysters and, by timing things right, a child naturally arrived.

When Nicholas Tse was born, Wong Jing and Patrick Tse were working together on the film “The Bund,” which also starred Liza Wang. Patrick Tse would often rush back home from filming to see his son, and then return to the set. He was so exhausted that on one occasion, while running lines with Liza Wang, she finished a long monologue but Patrick didn’t respond—he had actually fallen asleep.

Wong Jing also revealed that rumors suggesting Nicholas Tse entered the entertainment industry due to Patrick Tse’s debts are unreliable. When Nicholas just debuted, he was not worth a high price, and Patrick Tse wasn’t foolish enough to rack up huge debts.
