Over a Decade Cultivating the Chinese Market: Angela Chang Returns to Taiwan With a Cold Face

43-year-old Canadian-Taiwanese singer Angela Chang has been cultivating the Chinese market for over 10 years and is currently holding a tour there, with five shows just in August. On the 22nd, “Apple Online News” exclusively reported that Angela Chang, who hasn’t performed in Taiwan for seven years, quietly returned to Taiwan for a break and, early in the morning, took a nanny van to Songshan Airport. Wearing sunglasses and a highly-pulled face mask, she donned a belly-baring tank top with a sheer long coat, exuding a gentle and ethereal aura. However, not only did she not wave or greet her fans, but she also put on a poker face. Fans didn’t mind, remaining enthusiastic and greeting her warmly. Upon noticing the sincerity in her fans’ eyes, Angela Chang took photos with them in a businesslike manner before heading to the airport counter to check in. Fans followed Angela Chang on the escalator to say goodbye as she went through security; the next day, she performed for the first time in Quzhou, Zhejiang, China, showing a radiant smile in many photos.

In 2005, Angela Chang supported her labelmate Christine Fan by dueting on the song “If”. The two appeared to share a deep sisterhood, but later rumors of competing for resources surfaced. In 2008, Angela had a falling out with her mother over money, with her parents accusing her of abandonment, tarnishing her image with allegations of drug use and embezzlement. This took a serious toll on her reputation. At that time, Christine Fan reportedly distanced herself with the comment, “Other people’s contract disputes have nothing to do with me.” In 2018, Angela Chang rose back to fame after participating in “Singer 2018.” Christine Fan’s husband, Blackie Chen, tried to mediate so the two could talk things out, but Angela turned it down, saying, “We don’t work together, so there’s no need to meet.”
