PRISM Film Festival Awards Ceremony: 'Hope Beneath the Waves' Wins Professional Award

(Brunei, 6th) The 2024 PRISM Film Festival of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam has come to a successful conclusion.

This event celebrates the outstanding works of young filmmakers in various categories. A major highlight of this year is the theme of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), with categories focusing on critical global issues such as clean water, waste management, climate action, and social equality.

Since 2022, the film festival has been recognized by the ASEAN University Network on Culture and Arts (AUN-CA), continuing to promote creativity and culture among students in the ASEAN region. The Public Service Announcement (PSA) SDG category received more than 50 film submissions from both Brunei and internationally.

This year's festival emphasized the power of film in raising awareness and inspiring action on sustainable development and social justice. Films in this category focused on urgent challenges such as water scarcity, environmental protection, and social justice advocacy, showcasing how storytelling can drive meaningful change.

In the PSA SDG professional category, 'Hope Beneath the Waves' won first place for its focus on ocean conservation and the protection of Brunei's coral reefs. 'Forest's Promise' secured second place, highlighting the importance of forest conservation and biodiversity protection. 'RISE' achieved third place, exploring the global climate crisis and the collective responsibility to address environmental degradation.

In the PSA SDG student category, 'Mitya' won first place for depicting a young girl's struggle to access clean water. 'Save Water, Save Lives' secured second place, emphasizing the importance of water conservation. 'Voices in the Trash' received third place for its message on sustainable waste management.

Additionally, 'RISE' received the People's Choice Award. The festival also recognized the winners in other categories, including '2YOEL' for comedy; 'Night Shift' for smartphone filmmaking; 'Dazzling Lights' for animation; 'My Diary Does Not Exist' for experimental; and 'Lalu Masa' for drama.
