Planning Advances for Miri Integrated Administrative Center – Centralizing Government Offices

(Miri, 1st) The planning for the Miri Integrated Administrative Center (Pusat Pentadbiran Bersepadu Bahagian Miri) continues to progress. The overall project will provide about 1,500 parking spaces, including surface and multilevel car parks, to meet the future transportation and parking needs when all government agencies are centralized at the center.

Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin revealed in an interview that the integrated administrative center will be implemented under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), marking Miri’s first integrated administrative hub. Although Miri has achieved city status, there is currently no integrated administrative center, making the proposed plan significant for enhancing administrative efficiency and public service quality.

He said that the project's location is in the Tanjong area, adjacent to the coast with a beautiful environment. The front area is planned for integrated administrative offices, while the rear section is designated for government staff quarters (government accommodations/residences). The total development site spans about 12 hectares and is expected to accommodate around 20 government agencies, including departments like the National Registration Department (JPN), creating a one-stop administrative service platform.

Lee Kim Shin pointed out that the integrated administrative center will feature modern green and energy-saving concepts in its design, incorporating solar power systems and exploring the use of natural gas as part of its energy supply, with the aim of reducing long-term operational costs and embodying the concept of sustainable development. The buildings will be planned as high-rise complexes, integrating office and parking facilities, with an overall parking capacity of about 1,500 spaces to meet the needs of both the public and civil servants.

He stated that the project has already submitted a “Value at Entry” (VAE) application to the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), and is now awaiting budget approval and related procedures. According to the current plans, initial works are expected to start soon, with construction planned to commence in 2027, and phased completion targeted around 2031.

Lee Kim Shin made these remarks during a media interview after attending the 2026 Miri Division Administrative Personnel Awards Dinner organized by the Miri Division Office at the Marriott Hotel banquet hall last night.

On another note, the originally planned employee quarters behind the Tanjong IAC site has been shifted after geological and environmental assessments found that the site is on a slope and unsuitable for construction. Authorities have decided to relocate the staff housing to the Jalan Bulan Sabit area to ensure construction safety and long-term stability. Authorities plan to soon brief and inform nearby residents about these latest developments.

Lee Kim Shin emphasized that the integrated administrative center will consolidate currently scattered and rented government offices, improving cross-departmental coordination, enhancing public service processes, and laying a stronger administrative foundation for Miri’s future urban development.
