(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (KSSUP), through its Tourism Development Department (JKP), has certified 20 trainees—including academics and hotel industry professionals—who have all obtained the ASEAN National Room Service Trainer qualification.
This trainer training program was held from November 3 to 8, 2025, at the Radisson Hotel.
At the program’s closing ceremony and ASEAN National Room Service Trainer certificate presentation, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Tutiyati, presided over the awarding of the certificates.
The event was attended by Acting Deputy Director of the Tourism Development Department, Nurfariza Muniyati.
The training program focused on two main objectives: firstly, to enhance the trainees’ skills in implementing and meeting the requirements recognized under the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals (MRA-TP); and secondly, to ensure that room service standards become an important factor in continuously improving guest experiences to world-class levels, while fully adhering to all standards of the regional MRA.
In her welcoming speech, the Acting Deputy Director of the Tourism Development Department stated that room service personnel determine the quality and professionalism of the hotel industry in Brunei.
She said that the newly certified trainers bear the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s service quality.
Their certification not only ensures excellent service levels—which is Brunei’s brand signature—but also guarantees full compliance with the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement. This investment is crucial to enhancing Brunei’s competitiveness at the regional level.
Upon completion of the program, trainees have acquired the knowledge, skills, and professional qualities required to design and implement training programs that meet the requirements of the national-level “Labour Resources Act” (MRA).
This initiative aims to directly improve the quality and professionalism of frontline employees in the country’s tourism industry, thereby ensuring a highly skilled hotel service workforce.
This commitment is an important component of Brunei’s ongoing efforts to maintain service excellence and enhance the nation’s reputation. The country is renowned for its hospitality.
Trainers will be key drivers in ensuring that every visitor to our country enjoys a comfortable, meaningful, and memorable experience. The Tourism Development Department is deeply aware of the importance of providing high-quality services to international travelers.
This aligns with the national tourism development roadmap guided by the National Development Agency, and complements initiatives led by the Manpower Industry Steering Committee, which aim to enhance and upskill the local workforce.
This initiative aims to boost the workforce’s market competitiveness, ensure that skills match industry needs, and support post-pandemic recovery through training and capacity-building programs targeted at tourism stakeholders.
The Tourism Development Department will continue to drive capacity-building initiatives to ensure that every link of Brunei’s tourism value chain demonstrates professionalism, high quality, and compliance with international standards.
