The man was arrested on April 21, 2026, by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (BSJS) in collaboration with personnel from the Brunei-Muara District Police (DPBM).
The suspect, Jordan Jong Yueng Boo, 23, was arrested for impersonating an official from the Brunei Central Bank (BDCB) and attempting to solicit money from victims in public places.
The suspect acted as a "runner," belonging to a syndicate that impersonated representatives of financial institutions to scam victims.
On May 13, 2026, the suspect pleaded guilty before the judge and was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment on two counts: cheating under Section 420 of Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, and abetment under Section 109.
The police remind the public to remain vigilant and not to trust anyone claiming to represent government agencies or financial institutions, especially in matters involving financial transactions and fund transfers. The public is also urged not to participate in or assist with any illegal activities, or else face severe legal consequences.
