(Bandar Seri Begawan, May 4) – Sultan Foundation Primary School officially launched its Anti-Bullying Campaign on Monday, April 28, aiming to create a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment. This initiative seeks to enhance awareness and resistance against bullying through diverse education and outreach efforts, further safeguarding students' physical and mental well-being and their right to learn.
Recently, the school organized two sessions of talks in the school auditorium for over 500 students from Grades 4 to 6. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Principal, Hajah Hafizah binti Haji Salleh. In her speech, the principal reaffirmed the school’s “zero tolerance” policy towards bullying and called on teachers and students to work together to maintain campus harmony. Awards were presented to winners of the “Anti-Bullying Poster Design Contest” and participants of anti-bullying-themed videos.
Following the ceremony, two keynote speeches were delivered. The morning session, titled “Brunei Without Bullying,” was led by Siti Nazrah binti Haji Abdullah from the Ministry of Health’s Health Promotion Centre. The session explored the pivotal role of societal collaboration in eradicating bullying. At the conclusion, students and teachers took a group photo, and special souvenirs were presented to guest speakers to emphasize the shared commitment to community co-governance.
The second session featured a legal talk titled “Criminal Consequences of Bullying.” Officer Ariza binti Asar from the Royal Police Force’s Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit led the discussion. Through real-life cases, the talk provided a systematic explanation of how Brunei’s laws define, punish, and address the social impact of bullying. It emphasized the legal boundaries and responsibilities of individual behavior, helping students build a better understanding of the rule of law and the severe consequences of bullying.
This anti-bullying campaign is not just a school education initiative but a significant collaboration between Brunei’s educational institutions and societal forces to address campus issues. The school stated it will continue to promote anti-bullying curricula, psychological counseling services, and home-school cooperation mechanisms, aiming to transform the school into a “zero-bullying” model campus and set a benchmark for the healthy development of youth nationwide.
