(Kuching, 6th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg presided over the opening ceremony of the "Kuching Cultural Heritage Lighting and Flower Festival 2025" last night at the Kuching Waterfront Park.
Accompanied by his daughter Dayang Norjihan, he attended the event and witnessed the launch of the iconic lighting systems at Kuching’s three major landmarks, including the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Bukit Siol headquarters, Kuching Waterfront Park, and the electric ferry (E-Penambang).
Other invited guests included Sarawak's Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Minister for Women, Children, and Community Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
At the ceremony, Abang Johari visited the horticulture exhibition at the waterfront park, where creative combinations of floral arrangements and lighting were showcased. Afterwards, he proceeded to the Darul Hana Bridge to preside over the lighting ceremony for the DBKU Bukit Siol headquarters and Kuching Waterfront Park installations.
He then walked to the riverside to view the electric ferry (E-Penambang), adorned with vibrant lights, sailing across the Sarawak River.
The evening's fireworks display further boosted the festive atmosphere, attracting large crowds of locals and tourists to stop and watch.
According to a statement from Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), this brand-new lighting initiative will become a new landmark in Kuching’s nightscape, not only beautifying the city but also showcasing Kuching’s unique cultural and historical heritage.
