Urges to Make Good Use of Croc Watch App – Len Talif Calls for Risk Prevention Against Attacks

(Sri Aman, 6th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif, stated that many residents in Sarawak have yet to actively use the “Croc Watch” application as an early preventive measure against the risk of crocodile attacks in river areas, which is a concerning situation.
He said that this application is an important government initiative to raise public awareness about high-risk areas where crocodiles appear.
“This application was launched two years ago and is available for free download. The public can use this platform to report crocodile sightings in order to alert the community and raise vigilance,” he pointed out.
Len Talif made these remarks yesterday after attending the closing ceremony of the Sri Aman District Youth Self-Improvement Program.
He explained that although crocodile sightings are not a new issue, many people still have not taken proactive steps, such as sharing information through the app or making good use of the safety facilities provided by the government.
“The government also issues permits free of charge to individuals or relevant agencies for the relocation or capture of crocodiles, but only if the exact location of the crocodile is clearly identified, so that action can be taken.”
He urged coastal and riverbank residents to proactively use the “Croc Watch” application and participate in safeguarding their own safety and that of the community.
Len Talif highlighted that residents in inland areas who frequently engage in river activities should make safety their top priority.
“Digital monitoring methods like ‘Croc Watch’ are important tools to help authorities respond quickly and effectively to crocodile threats.”
He also hoped that the public’s active participation would help speed up the authority’s response and prevent accidents.
“Community collaboration and the integration of digital technology are the keys to ensuring our shared safety,” he concluded.
