(Miri, 6th) Sarawak Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee King Sing, stated that one of Sarawak’s greatest characteristics is that people of all ethnicities come together to celebrate various festivals, regardless of background. This atmosphere of cultural exchange helps further strengthen harmony and unity among different groups, allowing society to live together more harmoniously.
Lee King Sing, who is chairman of SUPP Senadin Branch and State Assemblyman for the Senadin constituency, made these remarks while attending the "Reunion Under the Bright Moon, Joyful Mid-Autumn Celebration" 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. The event was jointly organized by the SUPP Senadin Branch Women’s Section and Xing Xing Kindergarten.
He said he was pleased to see friends from different ethnic backgrounds gathering to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional Chinese holiday. This not only passes on the culture, but also gives non-Chinese friends the chance to understand and participate. During the event, children and parents from Xing Xing Kindergarten turned out enthusiastically, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.
Lee King Sing pointed out that the lantern activity during the Mid-Autumn Festival is especially meaningful. Young children wore traditional Chinese costumes, carrying lanterns and dancing together. Whether Chinese or non-Chinese, the kids could learn about Chinese culture joyfully. He believes activities like this should continue to be promoted, enabling children to learn about and respect other ethnic traditions from a young age.
"When they grow up, they will better understand, tolerate, and appreciate the festivals of different communities, such as Hari Raya and Dayak Festival. They will join in celebrating together, reflecting Sarawak’s diversity and harmony."
He thanked SUPP Senadin Women’s Section head Tan Siew Lan and her team for organizing the Mid-Autumn festival for the first time, especially inviting parents and children from different backgrounds at Xing Xing Kindergarten to participate, bringing more multicultural color to the event.
"Thanks to Director Tan for leading the Women’s Section in organizing various activities, which not only helps the party stay close to the grassroots, but also better understand the community’s needs in order to serve the people better."
In addition, during her speech, Tan Siew Lan said Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals for Chinese people, symbolizing reunion, unity, happiness and longing. This celebration is unique in that it is not just a holiday celebration, but also a demonstration of multicultural exchange and unity.
She said the event attracted Chinese, Malay, Iban, and Dayak friends, as well as friends from China, to take part. Everyone enjoyed mooncakes and shared food together, fully displaying the Sarawak spirit of "harmonious coexistence, united as one family."
Tan Siew Lan also thanked Minister Lee King Sing for his support, as well as the Women’s Section committee, Xing Xing Kindergarten teachers and parents for their enthusiastic cooperation in making the event a complete success.
