After declaring war on cigarettes and sugar, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkifli Ahmad stated that the Ministry of Health will next declare war on 'salt'.
He mentioned that after assuming the role of Health Minister, he launched the '3S' wars, which include the 'War On Smoke' and 'War On Sugar', and the next will be the 'War On Salt'.
Dr. Zulkifli said this during the Ministry of Health's New Year address on Friday (January 3rd).
He indicated that, statistically, every RM1 investment in the 'War On Smoke' yields a return of RM6, while the 'War On Sugar' yields RM10.
He pointed out that every RM1 investment in the 'War On Salt' can yield a return of RM60.
He said salt is the main cause of high blood pressure and also contributes to cholesterol, obesity, and overweight issues.
Therefore, he stated that the Ministry of Health will subsequently carry out the 'War On Salt'.
Dr. Zulkifli emphasized that he is a minister focusing on healthcare and hopes the Ministry of Health can ensure the enhancement of domestic healthcare, rather than sick care.
