Phuttham Sets Three-Month KPI Deadline; Warns of Reassignment and Restructuring for Underperformers

(Bangkok, 5th) – Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Phuttham, announced today that key performance indicators (KPIs) will be set for Interior Ministry officials, requiring all provincial governors and senior civil servants to deliver concrete results within three months. Those who fail to meet the standards will face personnel restructuring.

Phuttham publicly outlined his direction for the future work of the Interior Ministry after meeting with provincial governors and senior officials nationwide. He stated that he will work closely with the two Deputy Ministers, concentrating efforts on core issues such as rampant drug abuse and the efficiency of local governance.

“I hope to see tangible results within the next three months,” Phuttham emphasized. “If not, I will request position reassignments before September to ensure the right people take charge and lead the problem-solving efforts.”

He pointed out that assessment criteria will not be limited to statistics, but will focus on real and measurable changes. He encouraged officials who encounter obstacles within the current system to express themselves boldly and pledged to support those with potential who can drive reform.

“My office doors will always be open to everyone,” he said.

When asked whether this move implied that the previous team’s performance was lacking, Phuttham responded that he did not intend to deny the efforts of his predecessors, but believed that at this stage, standards should be raised higher.

As for whether the anti-drug policy will return to the hardline crackdown model under the Thaksin government, Phuttham replied that drugs now penetrate nearly every village and community: “Our goal is to ensure that people genuinely feel this issue no longer poses a threat to them.”
