(Mukah, 6th) — Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas stated that the construction of the new government guest house in Mukah has currently achieved about 65% physical progress, and is expected to be completed as scheduled in January 2027, meeting the official reception and accommodation needs of Mukah Division.
He said this project is a development initiative funded by the Sarawak government under the “Projek Rakyat” (People's Project), with an approved maximum allocation of RM12 million, of which the building contract value is RM10 million.
“According to reports, the progress is satisfactory and the contractor’s work is on track with the scheduled plan.”
“The report was very detailed, and we also discussed several improvement measures yet to be implemented. I hope this project can be completed as scheduled next year.”
Douglas made these remarks after attending a briefing by the Mukah Division Public Works Department regarding the progress of the new government guest house construction.
He highlighted that constructing a new government guest house is of great significance, as Mukah, being a divisional administrative center, still does not have a permanent government guest house for official functions and VIP accommodation.
He explained that due to the previous lack of accommodation facilities, some government officials visiting Mukah for official events had to stay in hotels in Sri Aman.
“Therefore, building this government guest house is crucial, as it will not only provide more comfortable accommodation facilities for official visitors, but also help Mukah Division host various government events.”
This project commenced on July 18, 2025, and aims to replace the existing government guest house, which is aged and beyond suitable renovation.
The new guest house facilities will include two VVIP villas, two VIP villas, 8 standard guest rooms, a hall that can accommodate 500 people, a banquet hall, restaurant, administrative and operation facilities, maintenance workshop, public utilities, surau (prayer room), VIP lounge, meeting room, lobby, storage rooms, as well as leisure facilities such as gazebos and pedestrian walkways.
