(Kuching, 5th) In response to public concern over the welfare of cats in their store, the management of a pet shop in Kuching stated that immediate measures have been taken to improve the care of the cats.
The management today issued a statement to the media via email, apologizing for the public unease caused by the incident and acknowledging the concerns raised regarding animal welfare.
The statement said that all cats in the store will be moved indoors, and some will also be arranged to find new owners to ensure they receive better care.
The management expressed its commitment to strengthening animal welfare management measures and preventing similar incidents from happening again.

Previously, the related allegations circulated widely on Google Review comments and Threads posts. The posts claimed that several cats in the store showed suspected signs of heatstroke, including continuous panting, a kitten crying incessantly, and some cat cages reportedly having no water for an extended period, which was only resolved after intervention from visiting customers.
The posts also accused the pet shop of deliberately placing cats outside the store to attract customers, and mentioned that a Bengal cat was reported dead, with a store staff member stating the cat died due to illness.
In addition, the posts also revisited similar allegations that surfaced in 2023, claiming that although the incident was reported to the relevant authorities at the time, the complaints were never properly addressed.
