A new round of heatwaves struck France again on the 5th, with temperatures in many areas expected to rise to 40°C once more. Meanwhile, wildfires continue to rage in southwestern France, with over ten thousand people required to evacuate.

According to China News Service, on the 5th the French meteorological department placed 16 provinces nationwide under orange high temperature alert, mainly located in the southwest and southern regions of France. Meteorologists predict that on the 6th, most areas in southwestern France will see temperatures reach 36 to 39°C.

Meteorologists believe that France is currently situated “at the center of a massive warm high-pressure system,” which could result in “persistent and intense hot weather.” The heatwave will gradually spread to most parts of France from the 6th, and in the coming days, temperatures in some areas may reach 41°C.

Meanwhile, the wildfire situation in southwestern France remains severe. New wildfires broke out in the Eastern Pyrenees mountains on the night of the 4th. French Interior Minister Nunez stated on the evening of the 5th that the burned area has reached 2,000 hectares.

The authorities of the Pyrénées-Orientales have requested evacuation in some towns affected by the wildfire, with the number of evacuees around ten thousand. About 700 firefighters have been deployed near the southwestern French city of Perpignan to participate in firefighting operations.
