10-year-old Venezuelan boy Andrés Mijares lost both parents, his brother, and one leg in the recent earthquake—he only wished for a sticker of Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, but Ronaldo personally recorded a heartwarming video for the boy, inviting him to watch a match live.
According to the New York Post, Andres Mijares’s home in La Guaira, Vargas State, was destroyed in the double quake on June 24. Mijares was rescued in time, but his family sadly perished.
Last weekend, while Mijares was lying in his hospital bed, he was recorded saying he wished for a sticker of 5-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo—one of the 980 stickers from the 2026 World Cup collectible album.
His story touched many, including a high-ranking official from La Liga club Real Madrid. The official contacted Ronaldo, who played nine seasons for the club, and sent Ronaldo's video to Venezuelan musician Pollo.
On the 3rd, Pollo visited the hospital, delivering the video and other gifts to Mijares, who had his right leg amputated.
In the video, Ronaldo says: “Hi, Andres (Mijares), how are you? I’m recording this video to send you a big, big hug.”
“I know you are a loyal fan of mine. When you’re feeling a little better, I’d like to invite you to watch one of my matches and really enjoy the excitement. How about it?”
Ronaldo added: “I really want to meet you. Wishing you all the best, my friend.”
On the 4th, Pollo revealed on social media that Ronaldo also sent Mijares a signed jersey. (News Source: CNA)
