(Bandar Seri Begawan, 23rd) The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) stated yesterday that Typhoon 'Lagat' is expected to indirectly affect Brunei's weather, with active weather conditions likely to persist until Friday.
As of 11AM yesterday, Typhoon 'Lagat' was located about 1,790 kilometers from Brunei and is expected to move westward.
The department indicated that some parts of the country may experience showers, strong showers, or thunderstorms, with gusts of wind reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour, or near strong shower levels.
Brunei Darussalam is currently undergoing the southwest monsoon, which usually lasts until the end of September.
Meanwhile, sea conditions around Brunei are generally slight to moderate, with wave heights between 0.6 and 1.2 meters.
In view of the forecasted active weather, the public is advised to take precautionary measures. During showers, there is a risk of trees toppling and roofs being blown away. During periods of persistent heavy rainfall and high tides, flash floods may also occur, especially in low-lying flood-prone areas and near riverbanks.
