(Thailand, 15th) Amidst the crossfire between Israel and Iran, Thai Prime Minister Phaetongthan posted on Facebook expressing concern over the situation. However, the post drew fierce criticism from many people in the comments section, who believe that the government under Phaetongthan is ignoring domestic security issues while instead showing concern for foreign conflicts.
According to Thai headline news, Phaetongthan mentioned in the post that she has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish an "Emergency Coordination Center" to assist Thais in the area. At the same time, she also ordered the Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministries to coordinate and prepare for the evacuation of Thai nationals.
Some netizens questioned the timing of the post, "Cambodia is already pointing cannons at us, the Cambodians know to restrain their own country, I'm going crazy!"; "Take care of your own country first then talk!"; "Stop worrying about others, use your brain to think about how to keep your own country safe!"
Meanwhile, Cambodia has officially sent a letter to the International Court of Justice seeking to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Facebook on the 15th that the Cambodian government has officially sent a letter to the International Court of Justice to seek resolution of disputes involving "Preah Vihear Temple" and four other Cambodia-Thailand border issues.
He stated that Cambodia needs a just, fair, and clear delineation of the borders that have been passed down to prevent endless problems for future generations with the neighboring country.
However, Thailand earlier stated that it refuses to jointly file with Cambodia to the International Court. Thailand and Cambodia held a meeting in Phnom Penh on the 14th to discuss boundary marking and border disputes, which continued on the 15th.
The military of Thailand and Cambodia had a brief skirmish on May 28 in the Chong Phra area along the two countries' border, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. Thailand subsequently temporarily closed two border crossings, citing national sovereignty and security threats, prohibiting tourists from crossing. They later reopened the crossings but shortened the customs clearance time. Both countries also reduced the visa validity period for each other's tourists.
