BINTULU: Street lights are urgently needed at high-risk spots along the Bintulu–Miri section of the Pan Borneo Highway.

Samalaju assemblyman Datuk Majang Renggi said two U-turn locations at Batu 30, Jalan Bintulu–Miri, were in urgent need of lighting to reduce accident risks, particularly at night and during heavy rain.

“Street lights in these areas are vital for the safety of motorists, both travelling from Bintulu to Miri and in the opposite direction,” he said when speaking at the ‘Jum Jaga Pan Borneo Bait-Bait’ Cleanliness Campaign here today (Aug 18).

The campaign was officiated by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Majang also raised the issue of treated water supply, which remains unresolved for several longhouses and villages along the highway due to the relocation of main pipes during construction.

He reminded the community to serve as the “eyes and ears” of the government by lodging early reports with the authorities so that prompt action could be taken.

“Protecting infrastructure is our shared responsibility. These roads serve everyone, and it is our duty to safeguard them properly,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said the ‘Jum Jaga Pan Borneo Bait-Bait’ Cleanliness Campaign not only raised public awareness of infrastructure maintenance but also strengthened collaboration between government, private sectors, and local communities for the common good.
