KUCHING: Sarawak’s contemporary Bornean restaurant, KANTIN, has earned international acclaim after being nominated in two categories at the World Culinary Awards 2025.
KANTIN at JEWEL Changi in Singapore was shortlisted for Malaysia’s Best New Restaurant, while KANTIN at The Granary here emerged as a finalist for Malaysia’s Best New Restaurant.
The Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development I (Youth and Sports Development), Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, congratulated the restaurant for bringing Sarawakian flavours to the global stage.
“KANTIN’s achievements are not just a win for the restaurant, but a proud moment for all Sarawakians.
“It reflects the world-class talent and entrepreneurial spirit emerging from our state.
“We are incredibly proud to see Sarawak’s unique flavours and stories represented on such a prestigious international platform,” he said.
According to Rentap’s media statement, his office has long supported local entrepreneurs and innovators. He described KANTIN’s success as a shining example of the creative and culinary potential Sarawak has to offer.
From its humble beginnings here, KANTIN set out to reintroduce Sarawakian cuisine to a new generation. Its international recognition today underscores the growing global appreciation for Sarawak’s cultural identity and culinary heritage.
KANTIN’s journey, from its modest roots in the state capital to being named alongside some of the world’s finest gastronomic brands, reflects what Rentap called the “bold, resilient, and flavourful heart of Sarawak”.
