(Australia, 7th) — A middle-aged woman was severely injured on the morning of the 6th after being attacked by a lion at a Queensland zoo in Australia.
According to Australian media reports, the woman was attacked while observing staff working in the predator zone at Darling Downs Zoo. She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she is now in stable condition.
The zoo stated on social media that the injured woman is “a beloved member of the zoo family,” who has observed work in the predator zone many times over the past 20 years and is well-versed in safety protocols. “For some unknown reason, one of the animals suddenly bit her arm, causing serious injury.”
The zoo emphasized that during the incident, the animal did not leave its enclosure, and neither the public nor other staff were at risk.
Although the zoo did not specify the species involved, multiple Australian media outlets reported that the animal was a lion.
The zoo added that the animal involved has not recently given birth, and will not be euthanized or punished because of this incident.
After the incident, police and government departments launched an investigation. The zoo also announced it would temporarily close due to the emergency situation and is scheduled to reopen on the 8th.
According to its official website, the zoo is a wildlife conservation and endangered species breeding center, offering visitors close-up experiences with a variety of animals, including African lions, giraffes, and lemurs.
