Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of China, visited North Korea, and Xinhua News Agency published a commentary stating that China-DPRK relations stand at a new historical starting point, shouldering a new mission in this era.

On Tuesday, Xinhua published a commentator’s article titled "Carry On and Develop Well the Traditional Sino-DPRK Friendship."

The article stated that no matter how times change or how the international situation evolves, the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK has always remained unbreakable and time-tested, continuously exhibiting strong vitality.

The article wrote that President Xi Jinping pointed out: Top-level strategic guidance is the greatest advantage of China-DPRK relations; the shared ideal of socialism is the distinctive feature of China-DPRK relations; the traditional friendship of a common destiny is the deep foundation of China-DPRK relations; and high-level strategic cooperation is the contemporary connotation of China-DPRK relations. These four points are a profound summary of the historical experience of developing China-DPRK relations and provide important guidance for inheriting and promoting traditional China-DPRK friendship.

The article stated that, faced with a rapidly evolving world marked by major changes unseen in a century and intertwined instability in international affairs, both China and the DPRK remain focused on managing their own affairs, forging ahead and persevering on the path of socialism. Currently, China-DPRK relations stand at a new historical starting point, facing new development opportunities and shouldering a new mission of the times.

The article wrote that China and the DPRK should strengthen multilateral cooperation and firmly safeguard international fairness and justice. They should enhance strategic communication and coordination, jointly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core and an international order based on international law, oppose hegemonism and power politics, oppose any attempt to revive militarism and acts that endanger regional security and stability, jointly promote equal and orderly world multipolarity, inclusive and beneficial economic globalization, implement the four major global initiatives, and work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi Jinping has visited North Korea again after seven years; on Monday, he held talks with the DPRK's supreme leader Kim Jong Un, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and strategic coordination, with no mention made of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
