Zheng Liwen Attends Overseas Chinese Banquet in New York: Both Sides of the Strait Belong to the Chinese Nation and Will Not Create Permanent Division

Kuomintang (KMT) Chairwoman Zheng Liwen stated in her speech at an overseas Chinese banquet in New York that "both sides of the Strait belong to the Chinese nation and will not create permanent division." She said differences can be resolved through mutual respect, war risks can be eliminated, and peaceful relations can be built together.

According to Taiwan's Liberty Times and United Daily News, Zheng Liwen attended the overseas Chinese banquet in the New York area on Sunday evening. More than 70 tables were set up at the event, and over 700 people were present.

In her speech, Zheng Liwen said that the tense situation across the Strait and the risk of war have caused international anxiety, and the KMT should play a key role in conveying to the world that a path to peace still exists. After the resumption of the KMT-CCP platform, as long as there is a return to the 1992 Consensus and opposition to Taiwan independence, cross-strait differences can be resolved, "so as to avoid the Taiwan Strait becoming the next Strait of Hormuz."

Zheng Liwen noted that during former President Ma Ying-jeou's eight years in office, cross-strait relations reached unprecedented levels of friendship. Taiwan not only expanded its international participation but also became more prosperous and gained more opportunities. Whereas under the Democratic Progressive Party's ten years in power, cross-strait relations have hit rock bottom, and now the region is facing grave military threats, making it one of the most dangerous areas in the world.

Zheng Liwen stated that President Lai Ching-te's "new two-state theory" constantly makes people feel that war between the two sides may break out at any moment, causing great anxiety in the international community. The KMT must once again take on its historical role to reverse the situation and prove that the path to peace always exists.

Zheng Liwen believes that although Taiwan is small, it is very important. She hopes that in the future, cooperation among the U.S., mainland China, and Taiwan can help Taiwan avoid military conflict and war, which would benefit not only the Taiwanese people, but also the interests of both sides of the Strait, as well as the interests of East Asian countries. This also completely aligns with U.S. national interests. She emphasized that Taiwan does not want irresponsible political gambles or calls for Taiwan independence, and does not want to wait for U.S. military intervention after a conflict breaks out.

Zheng Liwen emphasized that both sides of the Strait belong to the Chinese nation and will not create permanent division. She said that with mutual respect, differences can be resolved, war risks excluded, and a peaceful relationship can be forged together. Uniting forces, they can create a new height of Chinese civilization to contribute to humanity, rather than choosing war and self-destruction.

On June 6, Zheng Liwen also attended an overseas Chinese banquet in Boston. On Facebook, Zheng posted photos of the Boston banquet and said, "I deeply feel that overseas Chinese have always been the most solid backing for the Republic of China."

Wu Hsin-tai, Chairwoman of the Taiwan Statebuilding Party Taipei City Branch, pointed out that a person sitting not far from Zheng Liwen was Yu Guoliang, an official of an organization under the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Work Department, who on the surface is the founder of "Boston International Media Consulting Company" but is in fact "listed as an official of an organization under the CCP United Front Work Department and has even recruited talent for the Chinese mainland government in the United States."

The KMT responded that Yu Guoliang was a guest of an overseas Chinese at this banquet. Zhang Yunlan, a member of the KMT Overseas Department's Boston branch, who organized the Boston banquet, said she did not know Yu Guoliang, and Yu's name and organization were not on the banquet guest list. Yu Guoliang and Zheng only took a group photo together when Zheng went around toasting at each table, and did not dine at the same table.
