At the invitation of Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar, Turkish President Erdogan will be making an official visit to Malaysia from February 10 to February 11.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying that Erdogan's visit will further consolidate the close relations between the two countries, especially since the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) relationship in July 2022.
According to the itinerary, Erdogan will be welcomed with an official ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office next Tuesday, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar.
The two sides will discuss the comprehensive strategic partnership between Malaysia and Turkey, particularly in trade, investment, defense, halal industry, energy cooperation, disaster management, health, science and technology, and connectivity.
Anwar and Erdogan will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025; Turkey hosting the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum; Islamophobia; and the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The two leaders will also witness the signing of memoranda of understanding, agreements, and notes, followed by a joint press conference.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Anwar will host a luncheon for Erdogan at the Prime Minister's residence.
"As the 2025 ASEAN chair, Malaysia is committed to strengthening regional integration and building cross-regional cooperation, while Turkey, as an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner, has the capacity to play an important role in advancing ASEAN's economic priorities."
Turkey became an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner in 2017, and the ASEAN-Turkey Practical Cooperation Areas (2024-2028) serve as the framework for strategic cooperation between the two parties.
In 2024, Turkey is Malaysia's third largest trading partner, largest export destination, and fourth largest import destination in the West Asia region.
In the same year, the total trade between Malaysia and Turkey increased by 18.7% compared to the previous year, reaching 24.13 billion MYR (5.28 billion USD).
