【Level 5 Fire at Hong Fuk Court】Hong Kong Jockey Club Donates HK$53.11 Million

The Hong Kong Jockey Club, acclaimed as the largest charitable organization in Hong Kong, announced a donation of HK$100 million (RM53.11 million) to aid residents affected by the major fire at Hong Fuk Court in Tai Po. In addition, more donations are pouring in from both Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese businesspeople and enterprises.

According to a report from Central News Agency, the Jockey Club announced on the evening of the 27th that it would provide HK$100 million in assistance through the "Jockey Club Emergency Relief Fund" to address the urgent needs of the injured and the families of the deceased. This is only the Jockey Club’s initial aid, with more support to be provided in the future.

According to the announcement, the HK$100 million in aid includes an emergency grant of HK$150,000 (RM79,600) to each bereaved family, HK$100,000 (RM53,000) to severely injured victims, as well as subsidies for affected residents' temporary accommodation expenses.

In addition to the Jockey Club, a number of local and Mainland Chinese tycoons and companies have successively announced donations to assist the affected residents, including the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Community Chest, Lee Shau Kee Foundation, Wharf Group, HSBC and Hang Seng Bank, Fok Ying Tung Foundation, Chow Tai Fook Group, Sun Hung Kai Properties, Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, Shaw Foundation, China Merchants Group, Bank of China (Hong Kong), and AIA Hong Kong, with combined donations exceeding HK$20 million (RM10.62 million).

Additionally, China’s Jack Ma Foundation, Tencent Charity Foundation, Alibaba Group, China Resources Charity Fund, SF Express, Xtep Group, and others have also announced donations ranging from HK$20 million to HK$30 million (RM15.93 million).

Other Chinese enterprises making donations include Nongfu Spring, ANTA Group, Ant Group, Hong Kong Xiaomi Foundation, Fosun Foundation, Xinyi Group, ByteDance (Hong Kong), BYD, Baidu, Didi, Lenovo Hong Kong, and J&T Express, each donating tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars.
