(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) Recently, Chung Hwa School Kiudang successfully held the “Empowering Multidisciplinary Teaching with Artificial Intelligence: Exploring Innovative Paths in the Classroom—AI Teaching Demonstration and Observation Meeting.” Over 30 principals, vice principals, directors, and teachers from four Chinese schools in Brunei gathered together to jointly explore new directions in education in the era of artificial intelligence.
The aim of this event was to build a cross-school, cross-disciplinary exchange platform to promote teachers’ sharing of practical experiences in integrating AI into classroom teaching, and to jointly drive educational innovation and professional growth.
Principal Tao Meihua of Chung Hwa School Kiudang noted in her speech that holding this observation session was not merely to introduce AI tools, nor was it simply to follow the trend of technological development. Rather, it aimed to provide a platform for exchange and sharing with educational administrators and teachers from various schools, guiding educators to reflect on how schools should cultivate students to face rapidly changing challenges in an era where AI is increasingly integrated into life and education, and how teachers should reassess and realign their own professional value.
She stated that in the past, people often said: “AI will not replace teachers, but will replace teachers who do not use AI.” This statement reminds teachers that they must proactively learn technology and move forward with the times.
However, she believes that in the future, the real challenge is not only for teachers who do not use AI—even teachers proficient in AI tools, if their professional value remains only at the level of data compilation, material production, and technical operation, may also gradually be replaced by AI.
She pointed out that the truly irreplaceable value of teachers lies in educational judgment, creativity, empathy, value guidance, as well as the ability to build trusting relationships with parents and students, inspire enthusiasm for learning, and accompany students in their personal growth.
Tao Meihua also specifically mentioned that while the world is actively developing artificial intelligence, some countries have begun to restrict young people’s early contact with digital technology, such as reducing the early use of social media by students, or banning the use of smartphones in schools.
She said that these measures do not reject technology, but rather remind the educational sector that the more advanced the technology, the more important the role of humanities education; and the more powerful the tools, the more character building and value education should not be absent.
Therefore, she believes that teachers should not only skillfully use AI to empower teaching, but also use the wisdom of educators to guide students to learn to think, take responsibility, and distinguish right from wrong.

Participating teachers made good use of platforms such as NotebookLM, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Canva to showcase how technology can assist educators in curriculum design, producing teaching resources, enhancing classroom interaction, and enriching the learning experience of students across various subjects and grades.
The observation meeting concluded with a review and sharing session given by Principal Huang Han Hua of Chung Lian School Sungai Liang. He affirmed the teachers’ courage to innovate and their proactive exploration of AI in teaching, and encouraged teachers to continue using technology with a positive attitude, letting AI become an aid to improving educational quality and restructuring the learning ecosystem.
