The CoPER System Has Become a Development Project Indicator Will Ensure Greater Efficiency, Transparency, and Integrity

(Kuching, 20th) The Contractor/Consultant Performance Evaluation Report (CoPER) system has become a mechanism to ensure that Sarawak's development projects are carried out with greater efficiency, transparency, and integrity.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, Datuk Amar Douglas, stated that the CoPER system will ensure that the performance of contractors and consultants is comprehensively supervised throughout the entire project execution process.

He said that this system is not only an assessment tool, but it also allows for the systematic recording, monitoring, and tracking of the performance of contractors and consultants.

“The implementation of the CoPER system brings huge benefits in identifying high-performing contractors and consultants, while also enabling follow-up actions to be taken against those who fail to meet the set performance standards.”

He made this remark during his winding-up speech for his department at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Datuk Amar Douglas pointed out that the authorities have also taken a proactive approach to ensure that all registered contractors and consultants comply with the registration conditions and regulations set by the Sarawak government.

He revealed that in 2025, a total of 140 compliance inspections will be carried out to assess the compliance level of registered companies.

He added that this measure is crucial in creating a fair and competitive state procurement environment, while also ensuring that only eligible contractors and consultants can remain in the Sarawak government’s registration system.
