The tragic fire at Hong Fuk Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong shocked people both locally and abroad. As of the 16th, 160 people have died, 6 are still missing, and residents have lost everything, suffering severe losses and becoming homeless. At only 19 years old, singer and actress Gigi Chim (詹天文) attended an event recently and was asked what blessings she would give to the victims. Shockingly, she blurted out, “I believe everything is the best arrangement.” This comment drew heavy criticism from many Hong Kong citizens. On the 15th, Gigi Chim immediately posted an apology on IG for her inappropriate remarks.
Gigi Chim issued a public apology on Instagram, sharing a photo with handwritten blessings saying “Stay strong” and “Take Care, everything will get better” on an image card, and wrote in the caption admitting her comments were inappropriate: “What I meant to express was that I believe everything will get better, but since my words made everyone uncomfortable, I am truly sorry.” She promised to participate in charity performances and fundraising to support the victims with concrete action.
Afterwards, Gigi Chim posted again with white text on a black background to issue a more heartfelt apology, writing: “Regarding my inappropriate comment, I hope to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to all those affected. The fire incident is extremely heavy for everyone. I was nervous when being questioned on stage, which led me to misspeak. What I wanted to express was my hope that everything will get better. Through this incident, I will reflect thoroughly and be more cautious when speaking in public, to avoid inappropriate remarks in the future. Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone.”
Gigi Chim was a contestant on the first season of TVB’s singing competition show “Stars Academy”, and is currently a member of the girl group “After Class”.
