Rob Reiner, the 78-year-old globally renowned director of "When Harry Met Sally," and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Los Angeles residence on Sunday afternoon, US time, both suspected to have been fatally stabbed with a sharp weapon.
According to TMZ, 911 emergency call records from the scene have been released, documenting the moment rescue personnel, upon discovering the bodies of the Reiners, urgently requested backup from the dispatch center. Police stated that it was the couple’s 28-year-old daughter, Romy, who first discovered the scene, heartbreakingly finding both parents with their throats slit.
The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been taken into custody as a murder suspect. Initially, bail was set at USD 4 million (approx. 16.33 million MYR), but this was later revoked. According to jail records, Nick is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
Other sources have told media that Nick had a heated argument with his parents during a party on Saturday night. The family conflict allegedly escalated and continued into the late night, even after returning home.
Nick has rarely made public appearances in the past, but in 2016, he admitted to struggling with addiction and homelessness. He once said that he first entered rehab when he was 25, and his drug addiction had even left him living on the streets. In an interview at the time, Nick said, “During those days, I might have already died. It was all just luck; you just roll the dice and hope you survive.”
