BINTULU，31 July: The Tanjong Batu State Constituency Service Centre has urged the authorities to take immediate action following complaints from residents about drains clogged with garbage in the Parkcity Commercial Centre area.
Tanjong Batu Assemblyman, Johnny Pang Leong Ming, in a statement on Wednesday, said that his office had received public complaints and promptly reported the matter to the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) for further action.
“The BDA has been requested to dispatch a cleaning team immediately to address this issue.
“During discussions with BDA officers, it was revealed that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred at the same location,” he said.
He further explained that although cleaning works had been carried out several times in the past, the problem persists due to a handful of irresponsible individuals who continue to dispose of waste into the drainage system.
“This issue not only spoils the view but also poses a risk to public safety and health.
“Parkcity is a central hub and a face of Bintulu town. If left unaddressed, it will tarnish the reputation of this town,” he stressed.
In this regard, Pang urged all parties, including local residents and business owners, to be more aware of cleanliness issues and to report any individuals seen illegally dumping garbage to the authorities or the Service Centre.
He also suggested that the authorities conduct a comprehensive assessment of the need to tighten the enforcement of existing laws, increase the number of rubbish bins in the area, and improve the frequency of cleaning operations.
“The lackadaisical attitude towards public cleanliness must change. Maintaining cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the authorities but a shared responsibility of all members of society,” he said.
