(Kuching, Dec 24) Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dato Fazruddin Abdul Rahman, pointed out that the younger generation in Sarawak, especially those from the Dupont area, should utilize the educational initiatives introduced by the Sarawak government to create a brighter future.
He stated that this clearly proves that education is a key focus area for the Sarawak government.
"We are also aware that the Premier of Sarawak intends to introduce free education in specific professional fields at universities owned by the Sarawak government starting from 2026."
He said this will ensure that Sarawakian children, regardless of race, religion, or background, can have the opportunity to pursue higher education at universities.
"The remaining question now is whether our children want it. If you do, you must work hard."
Since Dato Fazruddin was unable to attend the 2024 Dupont Area Malaysian Higher School Certificate Exam Answering Workshop yesterday, his speech was read by the Chairman of the Sarawak Indigenous Teachers’ Union, Zulkifli.
Dato Fazruddin, who is also the legislative assemblyman for the Dupont area, emphasized the importance of young people participating in new economic fields such as technology, environmental sustainability, and clean energy to ensure the realization of the vision of a developed and high-income region by 2030.
"Our direction, method, and path forward are clear. The Premier of Sarawak has paved the way for us to seize opportunities in the future economy."
He reminded that it is necessary to prioritize identifying strategic approaches to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and vocational training to nurture a highly skilled generation capable of competing at the global level.
