(Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th) The Brunei Ministry of Finance and the Brunei Institute of Certified Public Accountants (BICPA) jointly held the "Accounting Profession Touring Seminar" yesterday at the Lecture Theatre Thrustworthy, Center of Chung Hwa Middle School, Temburong.
This seminar targeted students at the school, aiming to introduce them to the accounting profession early on, while also encouraging and inspiring students to plan their studies and career development towards the field of accounting after graduation.
Acting Director-General of Revenue Division at the Ministry of Finance, Dayangku Masreeda, emphasized in her welcoming speech that it is necessary for Brunei to cultivate more professionals in the accounting field, including qualified auditors and accountants, to meet the increasing demand for professional services. She pointed out that adequate auditing capability helps strengthen audit, compliance, and tax supervision work.
She also stated that if accountants fulfill their duties with diligence and integrity, it will ensure financial records are clear, transparent, and accurate, thereby assisting individuals and enterprises in making good decisions and proper planning for the future. She expects that more chartered accountants will join professional services in the future, supporting the country's economic development and assisting Brunei Darussalam in achieving its "Vision 2035."
During the event, BICPA Academy Director Adeline Lau Pik Wen also hosted a sharing session, discussing her professional experience and career journey in the field of accounting, while introducing the importance of obtaining professional qualifications—including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification—the pathways to obtain relevant qualifications, and the diverse career opportunities in the accounting field such as auditors, tax consultants, financial analysts, and advisors.
In addition to the sharing session, students and mentors also participated in interactive activities, and gained a deeper understanding of the accounting field through the Q&A session. This segment also provided opportunities for participants to interact, enabling them to ask questions about the topics discussed and receive further explanations.
This initiative is one of the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Finance and the Brunei Institute of Certified Public Accountants to promote the development of the accounting profession, and is also aimed at supporting the cultivation of future talent in Brunei’s financial sector and professional accounting services industry.
