On the 29th, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova stated that the US plan to deploy the 'Typhon' intermediate-range missile system within Japan is yet another destabilizing move.
Regarding the planned joint US-Japan military exercise in September and the deployment of the 'Typhon' intermediate-range missile system at US bases in Japan, Zakharova said this is another act by the US side that undermines stability, aimed at enhancing the deployment capabilities of land-based intermediate-range and shorter-range missile systems to facilitate the global deployment of such systems.
She pointed out that deploying and strengthening missile forces in regions neighboring Russia poses a direct threat to Russia's strategic security. This move will have significant adverse consequences for regional and global stability, including escalating tensions between nuclear powers. The Russian side urges the Japanese government to reconsider this decision. Otherwise, Russia will hold Japan fully responsible for any further deterioration of the regional situation.
Zakharova stated that Russia has noted that Japan is continuously accelerating its militarization process, including strengthening military exercises and military technology cooperation with the US. Russia has repeatedly warned Japan that provocative military activities near Russia's borders in the Far East are unacceptable.
She emphasized that Russia regards such actions as deliberate hostile acts that disregard Russian national interests. Russia will be forced to take necessary military-technical countermeasures.
