The Chinese period drama ‘Mo Li’ recently concluded, generating high discussion but mainly surrounding negative rumors about its female lead, Bai Lu. Reports surfaced accusing her of fabricating her educational background, using a stand-in for tea-drinking scenes, and displaying disrespect toward seniors on variety shows. These factors resulted in her losing a million followers. As her contract with producer Yu Zheng’s agency ‘Huanyu Entertainment’ expired and she chose not to renew, industry observers consider this a ‘growing pain’ period. With the show coming to an end, Bai Lu posted an emotional farewell to her ‘Mo Li’ character, using her character’s grandfather’s words from the drama: ‘Your path is ahead of you, not behind you’—a message that seemed to reflect her own recent state of mind.
Bai Lu described this acting experience as a ‘passing shower’ that allowed fate to pause for a moment. Facing the calm after the storm, she expressed heartfelt joy that 'A Li' could finally confront the joys and sorrows of life with composure. Although feeling deep reluctance to part, she again quoted her character’s grandfather: ‘Your path is ahead of you, not behind you’ as her closing words to the character. With warmth, she sent a small jasmine flower to wish ‘Ye Li’ a future of singing and walking ahead.
Beyond touching emotional scenes, behind-the-scenes footage recently released on ‘Mo Li’s official Weibo has also sparked heated discussion. The footage clearly shows Bai Lu suspended by wires and rigorously training in martial arts— performing all challenging stunts herself. Reportedly, she suffered from postoperative sequelae in her spine from childhood surgery, and when she worked as a model, wearing spring clothes in winter caused her to develop arthritis. This has left her nerves and spine prone to stiffness, and she was seen frequently supporting her lower back during filming. As a result, she will pause accepting period drama roles after completing ‘Mo Li’. #
