The deadline for the US "reciprocal tariffs" is approaching, and US President Trump recently stated that he will notify other countries at a rate of 10 letters per day, with the new tariff rates set to take effect on August 1. During an interview aboard Air Force One on the 4th, Trump confirmed that he has already signed 12 tariff notification letters, which will be mailed out on Monday (the 7th).
Trump told the media, "I’ve signed some letters, and they’ll be sent out on Monday—about 12 in total. The amounts and tariff rates for the 12 letters are different, and the statements vary somewhat as well."
He said that as for which countries will receive the letters, that will be announced on Monday.
Trump previously stated that countries must start paying tariffs from August 1, with rates possibly ranging from 10% or 20%, all the way up to 60% or even 70%. "I think they’ll all be sent out by July 9." This date is exactly the deadline he had set previously for negotiations; if countries wish to avoid higher import tariffs, they must reach an agreement with the US before the deadline.
