KUCHING: The Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS) has confirmed a new animal rabies case involving a pet dog at Jalan Stutong Baru, detected this week.

DVSS director Datuk Dr Adrian Susin Ambud shared the update in a brief statement, while also urging the public to take proactive measures by vaccinating their pets and complying with responsible pet ownership guidelines.

To curb the spread of rabies, the department is holding a free rabies vaccination and education programme today (July 5), at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tapah in Serian from 9 am to 4 pm.

The programme will also offer dog microchipping and licensing services.

Pet owners are reminded to bring their identification card and ensure their dogs, aged three months and above, are healthy, not pregnant or nursing, and leashed at all times. Dog tags will be issued upon payment for licensing.

A similar anti-rabies vaccination programme will also be held on Saturday (July 19), at Taman Sentoria, Stakan, Kota Samarahan, from 9am to 3pm. This event is open to dogs only and will take place at the car park area along Jalan Sentoria 3.

DVSS once again reminds the public to do their part in safeguarding the community by ensuring their pets are vaccinated.
