(Papar, 9th) A 42-year-old man tragically died from electrocution yesterday while attempting to use an iron rod to pick mangoes in Kampung Banbongan, Papar.
The Director of Ba Ba Fire and Rescue Department (BBP), Rozlan Osman, stated that they received an emergency call from MERS999 at 3:01 PM, and the firefighters arrived on the scene approximately 7 minutes later.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim climbed the mango tree and used an iron rod to pick the fruit, but unfortunately, the iron rod came into contact with a nearby power line, leading to his electrocution and causing him to lose consciousness on the tree.
Rozlan noted that the rescue operation commenced after Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) cut the power supply. Firefighters used a ladder and rescue ropes to lower the victim from the tree.
Medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (KKM) confirmed the victim's death at the scene, and the body was subsequently handed over to the police for further processing.
The rescue operation involved 8 Ba Ba firefighters and was successfully concluded at 4:29 PM.
