(Bintulu, 5th) — The Bintulu Police District Criminal Investigation Division has successfully arrested a local man in his fifties, suspected of robbing and raping a local woman on October 29 at the Similajau Forest Reserve.
Bintulu Police District Chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali stated that preliminary investigations showed that the suspect impersonated a police officer and deceived the victim under the pretense of providing financial aid, then took her to the scene of the crime.
“The suspect then robbed her of her mobile phone and assaulted her. Starting from October 30, the police carried out a five-day manhunt and ultimately arrested the suspect in Sibu at 2:30 pm yesterday (November 4),” he said.
The case is currently being investigated under Sections 392 (robbery), 376 (rape), and 170 (impersonating a public servant) of the Penal Code.
Nixon urged the public to remain vigilant and not to easily trust anyone claiming to be a law enforcement officer who cannot present formal identification.
