MASA Awards Incentives to 86 Swimmers Showcasing Miri's Thriving Swimming Scene

(Miri, 10th) The Miri Amateur Swimming Association (MASA) held an award ceremony today at the service center of Sarawak's Minister of Transport and SUPP Senadin State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, to honor 86 swimmers who have excelled in 2024 and to present incentives to encourage them.

MASA athletes who have achieved commendable results in national and international competitions continue to demonstrate the prowess and potential of Miri's swimming scene. The swimmers not only actively participate in local competitions but also represent Malaysia on the international stage, drawing impressive attention.

Reportedly, over the past year, MASA had five swimmers meet the international competition standards and were divided into Group A (fully funded) and Group B (partially funded) qualifications. This year, similarly, five swimmers achieved the standards, but ultimately only one succeeded in representing the country. Moreover, in last year's Malaysia Games (SUKMA), MASA representatives also won a bronze medal for Sarawak.

Since 2022, MASA has implemented a more systematic training and reward system and is continually committed to promoting the development of local youth swimming. The association also announced the organization of the "Miri Age Group Invitational Swimming Championship" from June 20th to 22nd, expected to attract participants from various regions in Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan, Sabah, the Philippines, and Thailand, igniting a swimming fever locally.

MASA hopes that by regularly hosting events and implementing a reward system, more young people will be encouraged to engage in swimming, which not only enhances competitive levels but also fosters healthy living habits and a spirit of proactive progress.
