Kuala Lumpur Tower Reopens After 10 Days of Maintenance; Hamzah Sarcastically Praises the Efficiency

Amidst a concession controversy, the Kuala Lumpur Tower, which was closed for 10 days for maintenance and upgrades, has reopened today. Bersatu Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin sarcastically remarked, “The public should be proud of the unity government's efficiency.”

Hamzah Zainudin wrote on Facebook that after the old Bumiputera management was ousted, the Communications Ministry closed the Kuala Lumpur Tower citing safety, upgrading, and maintenance reasons. However, it was announced yesterday that the Kuala Lumpur Tower would resume operations today under new management.

He sarcastically noted that the efficiency of the maintenance and upgrading work is remarkably high, resolving all safety issues under the old management in just 10 days.

“The public should be proud of the unity government's efficiency, although the controversy over Kuala Lumpur Tower is still in court.”

On March 26 this year, Lim Shanghai Capital was awarded a 20-year concession for the Kuala Lumpur Tower, effective April 1 this year.

Subsequently, the former concessionaire Kuala Lumpur Tower Company filed a lawsuit claiming that the government wrongly terminated the agreement signed between the two parties in 2022, alleging their concession period, initially ending on March 31, had been extended to December 31, 2054.

The Communications Ministry announced the closure of Kuala Lumpur Tower on the 16th of this month for upgrades and maintenance. When asked about the reopening date for Kuala Lumpur on the 23rd of this month, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi stated that he had not yet received a reopening notice.

But yesterday, the Communications Ministry suddenly announced that Kuala Lumpur Tower would reopen today.
