Three Men Encounter Danger While Climbing Lambir Hill—Rescue Team Conducts Overnight Operation, All Safe

(Miri, 5th) Three adult men encountered an accident while hiking at Lambir Hill National Park recently. One of them was injured and lost consciousness, while the other two were temporarily trapped in the forest. Fortunately, after rescue teams conducted an overnight search and rescue operation, all members were safely rescued.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre stated that they received a report at 6:30pm on April 4, indicating that hikers were injured and stranded at Lambir Hill National Park. A total of 12 personnel from the Miri and Lopeng fire stations were immediately dispatched, traveling about 36 kilometers and arriving at the scene by 7pm to begin the operation.

Initial findings revealed that one of the hikers had already managed to descend the mountain for help; the other two were still approximately an hour and a half's hike from the starting point in the forest, with one of them losing consciousness and requiring assistance from rescuers to get down.

The rescue team entered the forest at 9:03pm to conduct the search and successfully located the stranded individuals at an area of the forest at 11:20pm. Rescuers then carried the injured person down the mountain by stretcher, with the entire hike taking more than 3 hours.

According to the final report, one person suffered a foot injury but was in stable condition, while the other was unharmed. All hikers safely arrived at the park entrance at 2:47am and were sent to the hospital by the Miri Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) for further examination and treatment.

The operation ended in full at 3:05am. Units involved included five park rangers and two police officers.

The Fire and Rescue Department reminds the public to make thorough preparations and pay attention to safety when hiking or engaging in outdoor activities to avoid accidents.
