15th March 2025, Saturday – The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Branch, through its Community
Care & Protection unit and the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), carried out a heartfelt charity
visit to support two underprivileged families in Lambir, Miri. This initiative was made possible
with the assistance of Tuai Rumah Linggie, the local community leader.
Dr. Uma Devi, Chairperson, Community Care and Protection Sub-Committee, led the visit,
delivering an educational talk on key health and environmental topics, including:
Dangers of Plastics – Raising awareness about harmful plastic usage.
Importance of Cleanliness – Encouraging good hygiene practices.
Healthy Food – Promoting better nutritional choices.
The visit continued with an insightful discussion led by Mr. Mohd Shobri and Mdm. Dayang
Mariamah from the Miri City Council, who explained various services available to the families
and how to report issues to the Council. The Council also provided a "Say No to Plastic" sticker
for the families' doors — a reminder to choose eco-friendly bags over single-use plastics.
As part of the campaign against plastic use, MRC Miri distributed stainless steel food
containers, donated by a group of anonymous benefactors. MRC Miri Branch extends its heartfelt
gratitude to these generous donors. Alongside the containers, volunteers distributed dry food,
clothing, and essential hygiene items.
This charity visit is part of an ongoing effort by MRC Miri Branch to support vulnerable
communities, with more visits planned in the future. MRC Miri encourages more volunteers and
donors to join this meaningful cause to uplift the local community.
