The number of fatalities from the explosion at an Iranian port has increased to 25, with 800 others injured.
A fire broke out at noon on April 26 near the container terminal of Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province in southern Iran, leading to a violent explosion.
Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran's largest port.
The Ministry of Interior stated that around 300 of the injured are currently hospitalized in Bandar Abbas, and some will be transferred to Tehran for further treatment.
The official news agency reported that the explosion was unrelated to the nearby oil facilities at Shahid Rajaee Port.
Iran's Crisis Management Department spokesman, Zafari, said that the explosion was caused by chemicals in a container. The department's director had previously warned of potential hazards during an inspection of Shahid Rajaee Port. However, Zafari added that although chemicals likely caused the explosion, the exact cause has yet to be determined.
On the 26th, Iranian President Pezehkhi issued a statement on social media expressing deep condolences to the victims of the explosion and calling for an investigation into the incident.
